1st Andean Pacific Workshop on HIV and Hepatitis

2017-06-30 08:00 - 2017-07-01 18:00

We invite you to the 1st Andean Pacific Workshop on HIV and Hepatitis. Join our effort to build a community of HIV and hepatitis treating expert clinicians within the Andean region. The meeting will be held in the Sheraton Hotel in Satiago on 30 June – 1 July, 2017,  and will be preceded by the Andean HIV Clinical Forum meeting on 29 June.

In the last few years, the Latin American region has suffered with insufficient improvements
in HIV infections, and in many cases, even an increase, labeling HIV & Hepatitis as a pressing public health issue.

Late diagnosis and admission to care due to insufficient access to care and treatment is a main
concern that, ultimately, is increasing drastically the rates of mortality from AIDS. Healthcare
professionals from this region truly lack adequate access to information and developments
regarding prevention, linkage and retention in care. Treatment has not been adequately
addressed and Hepatitis coinfection is prevalent in parts of the region, making management of
the viral diseases more and more complex. This deficiency is bringing to light the emergence
of repercussions such as increase in the number of new cases among adolescents and very
young adults, aging and comorbidities that should, urgently, be addressed.

Despite all this, the region also exhibits significant heterogeneity in access to care, guidelines
and treatment, especially, new therapies. Given the increase in therapeutic options available,
clinicians and researchers will clearly benefit from the opportunity to be informed and to
discuss the newest data and their implications for clinical practice. The Andean Pacific Workshop on HIV & Hepatitis aims at bridging the gap between the knowledge that is shared among experts in the field and the knowledge of researchers and clinicians in daily practice.

Furthermore, this workshop provides a much needed educational platform for researchers and clinicians involved in daily clinical management of HIV and co-infections. We believe this meeting will create a good platform for clinicians, researchers and pharmaceutical companies to meet
each other and share their knowledge.

We look forward to welcoming you in Santiago de Chile!
